‘American Gods’ Star Cast As Master Chief In ‘Halo TV Series’
After years of waiting, it appears the Halo TV series is actually, really, honestly coming together. The show finally has some of its cast announced, including The Master Chief.
Pablo Schreiber is going to play the iconic role. Schreiber is best known for his roles in Orange is the New Black and American Gods, in which he plays George 'Pornstache' Mendez and Mad Sweeney respectively.
It's an interesting casting to be sure, because in both of those recent roles he's something of a villain. As Pornstache he plays a dim, abusive guard and as Sweeney he's a violent, unhinged leprechaun. Not the figure of military competence and moral good that the Master Chief embodies.
While obviously the Master Chief is going to feature in the new series, it's not clear if he will be the main character, especially as it's a new story in the universe.
Along with Schreiber, the Hollywood Reporter revealed that Yerin Ha would be playing Quan Ha, described as a "shrewd, audacious 16-year-old from the Outer Colonies who meets Master Chief at a fateful time for them both." Ha is a relative newcomer, with her only other credit on IMDB listed as a dancer in the I've Gotta Have You music video.
Other recent news about the Halo series is that it may shift locations, dates, and change the ethnicities of characters.
Production of the series is due to begin later this year, so expect it to release in 2020 at the earliest.
