‘Apex Legends’ Season 2 Has Less Grind And More Variety

‘Apex Legends’ Season 2 Has Less Grind And More Variety

Apex Legends' first season drew a fair bit of criticism from fans because after buying a battle pass the challenges you had to complete for experience towards levelling up were repetitive and grindy. Respawn Entertainment has heard that criticism and in Season 2 it will be much easier to gain levels and access the loot you bought into with the pass.

"We heard your feedback on the Season 1 grind and created a system which should allow for significantly greater Battle Pass progress with less grind over less time for players who return on a regular basis and maximize their Challenge resets," Respawn Entertainment's lead product manager Lee Horn wrote in a blog post.

The big change is that now more than half of the weekly challenges available each week will reward you with a BattlePass level up. So even if you were to focus on just those then you'll end up gaining a fair few levels over the season. The other challenges will award you with stars, a kind of BattlePass XP. Stars and match XP combine to help you hit other challenge targets, also awarding BattlePass levels.

There are seven weekly challenges available each week. Horn gives a couple examples of what you might see, like "Get 20 Kills as Gibraltar, Bangalore, or Mirage" and "Loot 100 Epic items".

"We're endeavoring to balance gameplay purity with variety and fun, so none of this Season's challenges will require a YouTube tutorial to figure out," Horn wrote.

Importantly, if you join the BattlePass late in the season, you will be able to complete all the previous weekly challenges. You won't be missing out on any.

Alongside the special challenges, are weekly repeating challenges that are another way to rack up the levels. If you can complete five daily challenges in a week you level up, if you can complete ten daily challenges in a week that's another level, and earning 9,000 stars or Match XP will get you another level. That Stars quest can be completed multiple times but each time you complete it the number of stars and XP you need increases.

Season 2 launches tomorrow, July 2.
