Batman Writer Teases 'Arkham Origin' Studio's Court Of Owls Video Game
With all the fun and games around Batman celebrating his 80th Birthday, fans around the world are eagerly expecting that a brand new game starring the Dark Knight will be announced in the coming days, especially since I'm pretty sure we all know at this point that Warner Bros Montreal is almost certainly working on something Batman-related and has been for quite some time. While the studio has yet to outright confirm or deny these reports, various teases and hints over the last year or so have strongly suggested that we're getting a Batman game featuring the shadowy organisation known as the Court of Owls.
The latest, and most compelling, piece of evidence to date in this ongoing saga comes from writer Scott Snyder. Fans of Batman will be aware that Snyder worked with artist Greg Capullo on a fantastic run of Batman comics that kicked off in 2011. Crucially, it was a run that started by introducing the world to one of Snyder's creations - the Court of Owls. Responding to a recent tweet in which Warner Bros Montreal updated its logo (which in itself is suspicious enough), Snyder re-tweeted the image with the hashtag #bewarethecourtofowls, followed by "wait for it."
Now, as if that wasn't enough to essentially confirm that WB Montreal is definitely about to announce a new Batman game and that it'll definitely star the Court of Owls, Snyder has since deleted the tweet in question which, as we all know, is pretty much a guarantee that someone who knows something we don't just said something they definitely should not have said. My conclusion is that a Court of Owls game is to be announced imminently, and that the Batman writer jumped the gun.
The existence of a Court of Owls game from the Arkham Origins studio was first alluded to back in 2018 when WB Montreal Assistant Producer Valerie Vezina posted a picture of a T-shirt adorned with a logo that looked very much like the shadowy organisation's insignia. In July this year, a Senior Game Designer for the studio also teased on Twitter that he was working on a project based on a DC property, but said he couldn't share any more at the time.
At the start of 2019, someone who claimed to be a QA tester for WB Montreal posted a massive (though arguably in no way credible) leak purporting to have full details on the studio's new game, which is an open world title called Batman: Arkham Crisis, and will indeed focus on the Court of Owls as the main villains. The leak also suggested that the game would launch in 2019, which would mean that it'd have to be announced fairly damn soon, given we're approaching the end of the year at this point.
As I always say, don't take anything as confirmation until we hear it from an official source, but given the raft of teases and hints we've been presented with over the last year, I would confidently suggest not to bet against the impending reveal of a brand new Batman game starring the Court of Owls. Now we just need to work out whatever the hell Rocksteady is currently working on, because there can't be two Batman games in development at the same time... can there?
