'Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare' Battle Royale Seemingly Confirmed In New Teaser
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare's battle royale mode has seemingly been confirmed, thanks to a couple of apparent teases discovered in the popular shooter. Both the intro cinematic for the recently-released Season Two and the appearance of a new option in the in-game menu suggest that we can expect the long-rumoured mode sooner rather than later.
The new opening cutscene that plays in Modern Warfare is packed with standard Call Of Duty fare. There's lots of shooting, a few explosions, and tough military types looking.. tough. However, it's towards the end of the clip that we're treated to a fairly clear hint that a battle royale mode is on the way.
As you can see from the video below (around the 1:20 mark) we see a group of soldiers leap from an aeroplane down onto a map that looks an awful lot bigger than any of the maps we've seen so far in Modern Warfare. There's also a strange green mist floating in the background of the shot, which fans have speculated is likely to be the battle royale's take on a shrinking circle.
If that wasn't a clear enough message, the main menu of the game now has a new option that's currently labelled "CLASSIFIED". This could be anything, obviously... but when paired with the new cinematic it looks certain that this new mystery option will soon reveal itself to be the battle royale mode.
Activision and Infinity Ward haven't actually said anything about such a mode one way or the other, but there's been compelling evidence to suggest it exists for a while now. Dataminers uncovered hints that a battle royale mode was on the way before Modern Warfare even launched, and in December last year one player even appeared to glitch their way into mode's supposed map.
The most prevalent rumours suggest that Modern Warfare's battle royale mode is being developed by Raven Software, the studio that typically offers support across all Call Of Duty titles. The initial leak also claimed that the mode would be released in early 2020 as a free-to-play standalone experience, meaning you won't actually need to own Modern Warfare to get involved.
Beyond that, it's rumoured that the mode's map is massive, and made up of various different locations, including the Gulag and a football stadium. We've also heard that it'll support up to 200 players, and will offer solo, duos, and four-player matches. In addition, it's been claimed that there'll be some kind of respawn system for the battle royale. This feature will supposedly throw players into 1v1 fights in the aforementioned Gulag, with the winner getting the chance to revive and rejoin the battle.
It's worth noting that none of these rumours have been confirmed at the time of writing, but all these separate reports, hints, and discoveries do seem to be lining up nicely. I wouldn't be surprised if Activision dropped some official news soon. We'll just have to keep an eye on this as it develops.
