'Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare' Season One Extended, New Weapon Added

'Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare' Season One Extended, New Weapon Added

Good news, everyone! It seems you're all having so much fun with Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare's first season of content, that developer Infinity Ward has decided to keep the good times rolling until February 11th. Season One, which kicked off on December 3rd, was supposed to end on February 3rd. Now you get a whole extra week with it.

Honestly, I don't really know for sure if this is cause for celebration or not. I mean, people seem to be enjoying it, yeah? Yeah. Infinity Ward explained that the season has been extended in order to make room for extra rewards, including a challenge that nets you a brand-new weapon - a crossbow, of all things.

"Over the next few weeks, a host of new items and challenges will arrive," Infinity Ward wrote on its website. "Including an in-game Challenge to earn the new Crossbow weapon, more remixed game modes, new playlists, and more in the Store to discover. To make room for all that activity, we are making a one-time extension of Season One - it's now ending on February 11."

The statement continues: "During that time, there will be 2XP, 2X Weapon XP, and 2X Tier Progression to help you finish up your Officer Ranks and Tiers, and get you ready for an exciting Season Two."

Call me a cynical old bat, but I'm assuming the practical reason behind the extension is to give Infinity Ward more time to work on Season Two. Season One was described as the "biggest free content drop in Call of Duty history", and came with a ton of new maps and modes for players. Among these were several returning fan-favourite arenas, including Crash and Shipment.

No doubt Season Two - which arrives later in February - will offer a similarly robust amount of content. A massive datamine late last year suggests there are plenty more popular maps still to make their way into Modern Warfare, including Rust and Ravine. It makes sense, then, that Infinity Ward would want to take its time and launch Season Two properly. Especially given the amount of hate Shipment has been getting from fans.

We can expect to learn more about Season Two and what content Infinity Ward has planned for it closer to the time. Hopefully we'll also learn more about the long-rumoured battle royale mode in the next few weeks... but one thing at a time, eh?
