In news that has FIFA fans bursting with excitement, Konami and UEFA have reached the end of their deal - meaning the Champions League will no longer be featured in PES games.

In an official statement, both companies confirmed that the "very successful and fruitful" 10-year partnership will come to an end once the Champions League final is done and dusted on May 19.

Naturally, the whole FIFA community is buzzing over the news because it points to EA Sports finally acquiring the rights to the Champions League for FIFA 19.

FIFA has had the licences for all the major leagues such as the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga and Ligue One for as long as we can remember but the one thing missing from the game has been UEFA's competitions.

In Career Mode, we've had to make do with playing in the Champions Cup' and, being honest, as realistic as the graphics and game engine are, it just doesn't have the same feel.

But with Konami and UEFA no longer partnered, that could all be about to change. It's not a certainty at this stage but it makes complete sense for EA to bid for the licence.

With FIFA the more popular franchise by a country mile, there's huge potential in an EA and UEFA partnership going forward. It could take the game to a whole new level.

EA, you know that to do...
