'Crysis Remastered' Trailer And Release Date Leak Online

'Crysis Remastered' Trailer And Release Date Leak Online

Crysis Remastered is set for an official reveal on July 1st, but wouldn't you know it? The trailer, screenshots, and release details all seem to have leaked early. When was the last time a video game didn't leak? I honestly can't remember.

A listing on Xbox Live seems to confirm that the remaster of the popular 2007 FPS will launch on July 23rd. The same page also has the first screenshots and debut trailer. Thanks to Wario64 on Twitter for spotting this, and be sure to take a look at the screens for yourself below.

The original Crysis was often regarded by gamers as the ultimate benchmark when testing out the capabilities of a PC. I'm sure you're all familiar with the "but can it run Crysis?" meme. That hasn't stuck around all these years for no good reason - the shooter was an absolute powerhouse of visual splendour at the time of release. If your PC could run Crysis, you were top dog.

But while the leaked screenshots and trailer do show some noticeable visual improvements, you can absolutely tell that this is is what it is: a remaster of a 13-year-old game. Still, video games have come a long way since 2007, and it would be ridiculous to expect Crysis Remastered to look anything like a modern FPS.

What'll be really interesting is seeing exactly how the gameplay holds up. Crysis was praised at the time for its immersive gameplay, but how much of that praise was tied in to the way the game looked? Can it still deliver the same experience for players who've been spoiled by years of increasingly good-looking and immersive FPS titles?

We'll have to wait and see, but I can't imagine most people that want to pick up Crysis Remastered intend to do so for anything other than a quick nostalgia fix. We all know it's a remaster of a game that's over a decade old, and it never pretended to be otherwise. I'm definitely coming along for the ride.

The remaster is being handled by original developer Crytek, and will be coming to PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. That we live in an age where the once-might Crysis can now be played on a handheld Nintendo system truly is the most amazing thing of all.
