'Cyberpunk 2077' Is Hiding A Cool Reference To 'The Witcher 3'

'Cyberpunk 2077' Is Hiding A Cool Reference To 'The Witcher 3'

Before Cyberpunk 2077, developer CD Projekt RED worked on a little game called The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Given this, it probably won't come as much of a surprise to you to learn that the studio's upcoming sci-fi RPG contains a fun little reference to Geralt's critically-acclaimed fantasy RPG.

A number of press were recently able to go hands-on with Cyberpunk 2077's opening hours, including us. However, it was GameSpot who uncovered the Witcher-shaped Easter egg during their own playthrough of the game.

As you may have heard, Cyberpunk 2077 gives players the choice of multiple "life paths". Depending on which you choose (Street Kid, Nomad, or Corporate), your character will start the game with a completely different location, origin story, and relationship to the world.

It was in the Corporate playthrough that GameSpot... spotted The Witcher 3 reference. While looking around the character's fancy office in the city, they discovered a magazine all about retro gaming tucked away in a desk drawer.

Geralt's adopted daughter and likely star of future games in The Witcher franchise graces the cover of the issue, which just so happens to be dedicated to their game of the month: The Witcher 3.

‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Has Been Hit By Yet Another Release Date Delay

It certainly sounds like a neat Easter egg to come across so early in the game, and a promising sign that CD Projekt RED has hidden away more than a few references to Geralt and friends in the open world of Night City. After yet another delay, Cyberpunk 2077 will now be launching on November 19th - but I can't wait to get stuck in and start exploring.

As for our own thoughts on how the game is shaping up so far? Our very own Julian Benson came away mostly impressed, although noted that it's not without its rough patches and awkward gameplay, the latter of which could end up being a real issue.

"That's the part of Cyberpunk 2077 that excites me: choice, and seeing those choices reflected in the world," Julian wrote in his preview.

"What I'm left cold on from my preview is the game that the story pulls you through. The devotion to immersion makes for a seamless narrative experience, but the environments are very difficult to read. I really want to play the game as a ghost who hacks and sneaks their way through encounters, but it was extremely hard to recognise the bits in the environment that would make that possible."
