'Cyberpunk 2077' Will Let You Pet Cats, Making It GOTY Material

'Cyberpunk 2077' Will Let You Pet Cats, Making It GOTY Material

Every day I learn something about Cyberpunk 2077 that makes me like it even more. Today, I learned something about the CD Projekt RED-developed sci-fi RPG that now has more more excited than all The Witcher 3 Easter eggs and pubic hair customisation in the world.

You can, if you so wish, pet the cats in Cyberpunk 2077. That's it. That's the article. I mean, do you really need to know more?

Oh you do? Fine.

A lot of press and content creators - including GAMINGbible - were recently lucky enough to go hands-on with the first few hours of Cyberpunk 2077. It was after this that a ton of details on the game's world, customisation, and characters started to trickle out from preview pieces.

There was all kinds of impressive stuff, including a proper look at combat and exploration across the game's gorgeous Night City. However, it was IGN who revealed the most important piece of information in its own impressions on the four-hour demo.

"Oh, and I pet a cat!" they wrote, understandably excited. "That's very important. I didn't see any dogs for you dog people out there."

Does this mean there are no dogs in Cyberpunk 2077? I don't know. I also don't really care. Don't get me wrong, I love dogs - but they've hogged the spotlight in video games for too long. Ever since Duck Hunt, canines have either been companions or critters that you can pet and play with, while cats are relegated to second place. No more, say I.

Precious few games let you fluff cats, while interactive dogs have ruled the roost. I really can't think of many games that let you scritch a kitty behind the ears, so I'm more than happy with CD Projekt RED shifting the balance in favour of the feline. Especially after playing The Last Of Us Part II. I think I just need a break from digital dogs after what Naughty Dog put me through in its latest game.

After another delay, Cyberpunk 2077 will now arrive on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 19th. It's also been confirmed that when the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions launch, those with current-gen versions of the RPG will be able to upgrade for free.

I look forward to seeing the game - and the cats - in all their next-gen glory.
