Doom Has Its Own Vodka And It’s Made With Bones
Games and drinking have always mixed well. I'm a fan of a bottle of wine with adventure games and beers with shooters. But a new trend is alcohol inspired by games. We saw this with the the Borderlands 3 beer brewed by Beavertown beer brewed by Beavertown and now Bethesda is getting in on the action with a Doom-inspired vodka made by Rebel Distillers. This isn't your average vodka, though, as it is made from bones.
Bethesda announced the vodka on Twitter:
Now, there aren't many details in the tweet and the preorder page on Rebel Distillers' site doesn't add a lot more detail. Though, it does confirm that "This world first vodka, [uses] bones sourced from world famous butchers 'The Ginger Pig'" - who apparently make very good sausage rolls.
The London-based distiller gave more information in an interview on The Spirits Business, saying "Doom Eternal is a world of flames and demons, a barbecue pit with action - a smoked bone vodka is certainly a new take on spirit provenance."
Apparently, the bones are first roasted and smoked before the marrow is extracted and macerated in alcohol. Then it's distilled for our drinking... pleasure? The end flavour of this drink is described as a "dry, earthy start" with a "umami and buttery feel on the tongue", and a "smoky, peppery" finish. Which, certainly sounds like it might be nice. Though, prestige drinks can often be a little questionable, with the theme getting in the way of the flavour.
