EA Games Return To Steam, Starting With 'Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order'

EA Games Return To Steam, Starting With 'Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order'

You can't spell Steam without EA, which is why it looks like you'll finally be able to buy the FIFA and Battlefield publishers titles through Valve's popular digital storefront once again in the near future, starting with the hotly-anticipated Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

After previously teasing the return of its games to Steam last week, EA has now officially confirmed the partnership. As well as being able to buy and run EA-published games through Steam, the publisher has also teamed up with Valve to offer the EA Access subscription service through the storefront, too.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
comes to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 15, so that's when the Steam/EA reunion really kicks off in earnest, but we can expect a ton of other EA games to come to the platform in the next few months, including the charming Unravel 2 and The Sims 4.

Meanwhile, multiplayer games like Apex Legends, Battlefield V, and FIFA 20 will be available on the platform next year, and will allow players on Steam and Origin the opportunity to play together. The ability to run EA Access through Steam and keep your library in one place will become available in Spring 2020.

It's unclear what prompted EA to make the move back to steam, especially as more and more publishers and developers seem to be migrating over to the rival Epic Game Store, or else pushing their own digital platforms. Rockstar, for example, recently announced a PC port of Red Dead Redemption 2 alongside its very own Rockstar Games Launcher.

I'd imagine that Steam allowing some kind of EA Origin compatibility was the crucial factor in this renewed partnership, but whatever the case, this is very much a win for the loyal customers who refuse to abandon Steam for... reasons I'll never particularly understand.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

I guess if nothing else, we now have extra reason to be excited for the November launch of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order".

In our own hands-on preview of the game, we said that it could just be the Star Wars game we've been waiting for, and that if the story manages to match up to the "wonderful combat, traversal and puzzling that we've seen", then we're "quietly confident" it could be a "defining Star Wars game of our era, maybe even ranking among the greatest in the fictional universe"
