New Fable Finally Announced For Xbox Series X, And It Looks Stunning
The worst kept secret in gaming is out, it looks like Forza studio Playground Games really is working on a new Fable for Xbox Series X, and we couldn't be more excited.
The brief reveal trailer didn't really give anything at all away as to what we can expect from the new entry, but it sure did look pretty. It's also reassuring to see that Playground Games has a handle on the uniquely British sense of humour that former developer Lionhead imbued Fable with when they created the RPG series all those years ago.
But enough outta me - take a look at the trailer for yourself below.

It's been a long time since we last journeyed to Albion. Fable 3 released way back in 2010, so it's definitely about time the franchise made its return. What's really curious is that the end of the trailer doesn't refer to the new game as Fable 4, though. Rather, it's simply called Fable. Is that just a working title, or does this mean that the new game is a complete reboot, rather than a continuation of the previous three games?
We'll have to wait and see, but the latter option would make the most sense. The characters and stories created by Lionhead remain beloved by so many fans, after all. Rather than attempt to build on that, it's definitely better to attempt to tell new stories in the same world.
There's absolutely no word on a release date or when we can expect to see more of this new Fable, which implies that it's still fairly early days for the RPG revival. Still, Microsoft ended its Xbox Series X showcase by assuring fans that it has way more to show off later this year, so I'd imagine we'll be seeing a little more of Fable ahead of the Xbox Series X launch.
For now, I'm just looking forward to seeing that frog again.
