$1 Million 'Fortnite' Winter Royale Begins This Week For Everyone

Reckon you're a battle royale expert? Fancy making extra pocket money? Then you should probably enter this tournament.

Epic Games is preparing for the first Fortnite Winter Royale - a competition which boasts an eye-watering prize of $1 million - and the studio is looking for eager participants. Think of all the V-Bucks you could buy with cash like that.

Although it'll be no easy feat to win, someone has to. You don't even need to be a pro-player to take part - just own Fortnite, know what you're doing, and try to achieve a really high score this weekend.

Qualifiers for the Winter Royale, which is also the first open Fortnite competition to offer cash prizes, take place this Saturday and Sunday via similar methods to the current Pop-Up Cup.

"There will be several chances for anyone to try and get a high score during the Winter Royale Qualifier days," Epic has stated in a blog post. "The highest score you achieve during any event session will be the one that counts, so be sure to give it your all!

"The rules and gameplay will change over time, similar to Limited Time Modes. We plan to iterate and explore different in-game adjustments by closely monitoring competitive play in these Pop-Ups."

Those who progress to the finals will be the top performers in each region for North America and Europe, and they'll represent their respective regions in the Winter Royale.

Europe's Winter Royale finalists will compete on 30 November and 1 December, while the best of North America will battle it out on 11 and 12 December.

You could say this is all a test for Fortnite's 2019 World Cup, which will host the finest battle royale players, offer the biggest Fortnite prize pool, and represent the toughest competition we've seen so far. Good luck to anyone who enters - you're going to need it.
