Hideo Kojima's 'Death Stranding' Ships In June, According To Walmart Canada

Hideo Kojima's 'Death Stranding' Ships In June, According To Walmart Canada

Death Stranding, one of gaming's most mysterious, anticipated titles, has been given an 'official' launch date. Well, sort of. It's appeared on a Walmart Canada listing. So take what we're about to tell you with a healthy handful of salt (and do try not to rub it into your disbelieving eyes).

Hideo Kojima, the man, the myth, the legend behind the industry-changing Metal Gear series, is yet to personally share any release news concerning Death Stranding, his current game project. Nor is Sony, for that matter, the company with console exclusivity over the upcoming title.

But according to a tweet from one of North America's biggest retailers, Walmart, Death Stranding is scheduled to ship in June, 2019. Just in time for next year's E3, an event Sony will be notably absent from.

This unveiling, if you will, came after Geoff Keighley, known best-bud of Kojima and host of The Game Awards 2018 - which take place on 6 December - tweeted the following:

"Today we start transitioning into #TheGameAwards world premiere land. There are a LOT of games we won't be talking about at all until the show (All eyes on you @WalmartCanada) but we do have some great things to tease/announce in the week ahead."

Well, Geoff. You might not be talking until secret games until the show, but Walmart Canada will be posting one, in particular, on its website. And it'll also be confirming to fans, who asked the retail chain to "elaborate" on Keighley's tweet alongside a screenshot of the Death Stranding listing, when the anticipated game launches.

Hideo Kojima Had A ‘Large Game Proposal’ Rejected After ‘Death Stranding’

Will Death Stranding's star-studded cast of Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux, Lindsay Wagner, Troy Baker, Tommie Earl Jenkins and Emily O'Brien turn out for The Game Awards? Or, y'know, Kojima? You've got to hope so.

Because, despite four major trailers having been released, the gaming community still knows next to nothing about Death Stranding, the first project Kojima has worked on since his departure from Konami in 2015. Could The Game Awards be the moment where we get a little clarity - and perhaps a confirmed release date? (Because it's not like Walmart Canada has a spotless record for this stuff - anyone else remember it listing Forza Horizon 5?)

Until then, you'll have to make do with those strange, disturbing teaser trailers. Which, to be honest, only serve to confuse us all even more.

What do you think about this apparent leak? Do you think the game will release in June, and are you looking forward to it? Make sure you let us know.
