IO Interactive Confirms 'Hitman 3' Is Underway, Shows Off Pirate Agent 47
It's been a year since IO Interactive released Hitman 2 to a chorus of critical positivity, with the all-missions-at-once sequel to 2016's episodic affair garnering very similar high scores to its predecessor. Since then, the Danish studio has released a number of updates, adding timed contracts (RIP, again, Sean Bean), escalations and special seasonal content, giving Agent 47 a heap more killing to get through.
And that content isn't being turned off, just yet. In a new blog post on the IO website, the developer lays out what's coming before the Christmas break. (Do assassins take Christmas off? They should, or at least ask for double-time.) The post reads:
"A ton of content drops are coming your way this month, with every week having at least two content drops and some weeks having four drops! We're talking a total of 10 Featured Contracts, 8 Escalation Contracts, 6 Challenge Packs, 5 item unlocks, 2 suit unlocks and a Legacy Elusive Target!"
There's also a video to check out - on YouTube, or below:
That's a lot of New Stuff to get through this side of digging into your stockings. Our pick of what's coming has to be a new buccaneer suit for Agent 47, unlocked as part of the, ahem, Bartholomew Hornswoggle Escalation. This game, seriously.
The post then details that IO is moving onto the next Hitman game - let's call it Hitman 3, for now - and that November's content drop represents the second game's final major update.
"We're now at a place where we are looking increasingly to the future. In real terms, we're moving more and more of the Hitman 2 team to join the next Hitman game, which is well underway. This means that we're expecting the November Update to bring the final major patch and set of Release Notes for Hitman 2, while December will round out the year with the remaining new content drops for the game... as well as the permanent return of some Seasonal Content."
We've known that Hitman 3 is on the way for, well, some time, let's say. We spoke to Agent 47 actor David Bateson a year ago, and he revealed: "Right now, this is part of a trilogy... you've got Hitman 3 to look forward to." SPOILERS, David, sheesh.
What's not clear right now is how the next game will release - with all the main missions on day one, or through an episodic structure (which a lot of players prefered, allowing them to get more out of each location and really learn the maps).
What surely has to be left intact, however the next game releases, is the lethality of those briefcases. Never has sensible luggage been used to such stunningly deadly effect. This game, seriously.
