KFC Might Be About To Announce Its Very Own Esports League
KFC is continuing to make strange and unwarranted plays for territory in the world of video games. Only yesterday it was announced that the fried chicken overlords would be releasing their very own dating sim where you must win the affections of Colonel Sanders while making it through a prestigious culinary school (no seriously), and it looks like the KFC/video game love-in isn't about to end there.
Not too long ago, the company ran a competition on social media where they asked people to vote for their very games. Ubisoft's tactical shooter Rainbow Six Siege took almost 100,000 votes to triumph over Minecraft in the final round. The official KFC Gaming Twitter account (which is a thing for some reason) said at the time that "the turnout from the community was huge... guess we'll have to put together a reward for the R6 Siege family."
As it turns out, that reward might not have been the dating sim which, to be fair, would have been an unusual reward for people who enjoy the military FPS stylings of Rainbow Six Siege. A new tease from the chicken man shows of a video in which pro Rainbow Six players go at it to a guitar-heavy soundtrack, along with the caption "Cash and chicken to be won", "See you there #KFCR6", along with a September 23 date.
It certainly sounds like - and I feel silly even typing this but I guess this is just what 2019 is - there's going to be a big Rainbow Six Siege esports event sponsored by KFC in the coming months. It's no secret that there's big money in esports, and if KFC's foray in into the competitive gaming scene works out then we could very well see other fast food giants following suit.
I give it a year before Burger King teams up with Epic Games to sponsor a Fortnite competition. Two years before Dominos works with Nintendo on some kind of Super Smash Bros Ultimate event. Ten years before McDonald's and Activision get together for a Call of Duty: Ronald Warfare clash of titans.
While we patiently await the news of September 23, why not indulge in I Love You Colonel Sanders! A Finger Lickin' Good Dating Simulator? The Steam description invites players to enjoy "the most delicious dating simulator ever created. Do you have what it takes to be the business partner of and win the heart of the most famous chicken salesman of all time? Play to find out! Go ahead, Colonel Sanders is waiting."
Colonel Sanders is always waiting.
