'Mafia: Trilogy' Features A Full Remake Of The Original Game

'Mafia: Trilogy' Features A Full Remake Of The Original Game

After a brief tease last week, we now know the full extent of what Mafia: Trilogy is offering - and it's one substantial package. As previously rumoured (and now confirmed by publisher 2K Games), the trilogy includes a "re-introduction" of the divisive Mafia III, as well as a remaster of 2010's Mafia II. But the really exciting news is that we're also getting a ground-up remake of 2002's original Mafia.

Described in a press release as "the centerpiece of the collection", Mafia: Definitive Edition is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on August 28th. Developer Hangar 13 promises an updated script, expanded backstories, and additional cutscenes. We can also expect all-new gameplay sequences and features powered by the same engine that was used to develop Mafia III. That... is a lot more than I was expecting.

"The original Mafia made such a lasting impact on how video games can tell serious stories, and we know how much the series' fans still revere it," said Haden Blackman, President and CCO at Hangar 13.

"Nearly 20 years after the Mafia series started, we now have an amazing opportunity to introduce this beloved game to a new generation of players and give longtime fans a chance to relive Tommy's story with a stellar modern presentation, as well as new story elements and gameplay features."

A physical version of the entire collection will launch on the same day, if you'd rather wait for that.

Anyone who pre-orders the digital or physical versions will also net themselves a few exclusive goodies. You'll get the Black Cats Motorcycle Pack for the first game, the Made Man pack for the second game, and the Classico Three-piece Suit & IL Duca Revolver for the third game.
