Man Sacked After Online 'Pokémon Go' Rant Offends A Whole Country

Man Sacked After Online 'Pokémon Go' Rant Offends A Whole Country

He proper lost his rag...

An Australian man living in Singapore lost his job after ranting about Pokémon Go on his Facebook page.

Sonny Truyen had recently scored (what some would say) a dream job working for Singaporean-based firm 99.co. As vice president for digital marketing, he probably should've known better than to completely kick off and offend a whole country through a Facebook status.

As you can see, Sonny decided to call Singapore a 'piece of fucking shit country'.

He also sounds like a proper dickhead when someone tells him to leave the country and he responds with: "Why? So the average iq can fall and you feel adequate?"

Come on, mate. That's just a proper knob thing to say.

Screenshots of the conversation quickly spread through the internet (as these things tend to) and people started posting on 99.co's Facebook page calling for Mr Truyen to be sacked. You can say what you want about 99.co, but they really do listen to customers. Within 24 hours, they released a statement confirming that Mr Truyen had be fired from his position.

In the statement, they're keen to emphasise that Mr Truyen had only been with them for a week before it happened.

They say: "Sonny, an SEO specialist, has only started consulting for us for a week before the incident happened.

"We are a proud Singaporean company and do not condone such language or behaviour, hence we have since terminated his engagement once the incident came to light.

"I apologise on behalf of 99.co, we pride ourselves to be a principled company that celebrates values like diversity and equality.

"We take responsibility for the public behaviour of any employee or consultant affiliated with us as a reflection of the company."

Pokémon Go has only been out less than a week and I already feel like all I do is write and talk about it.

That's the sign of a good game, to be fair.
