'Modern Warfare' And 'Warzone' Get Surprise Double XP For Rest Of Week
Infinity Ward has switched on Double XP as a surprise for Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone players on all platforms. Double XP, Double Weapon XP, and 2X Tier Progression through the Battle Pass are live now until Friday, May 8th at 6pm UK time.
The developer confirmed over Twitter that the surprise was a way of saying "thank you" to players for their patience during the numerous issues with Modern Warfare and its free-to-play battle royale spinoff over the weekend. Over the past few days, players have been reported extended matchmaking times, trouble getting into games, and other persistent server issues.
Many players were particularly annoyed by the server issues over the weekend as it was actually a Double XP Weekend. Such events are obviously supposed to be prime time to dive in and play as many games as possible so that you can soar through the ranks... so it's less-than-ideal when you find yourself unable to load up any games.

Activision Support claimed to have resolved many of these issue last Friday (May 1st), but a rough weekend for the game proved that wasn't the case. Fortunately, Infinity Ward confirmed earlier this week that it's since identified the problems and has been working on a fix. Hopefully the Double XP surprise is enough to help the fans forgive and forget. I'm sure it is.
In other Call Of Duty news, Infinity Ward recently teased what we can expect as part of the game's fourth season of content. According to narrative director Taylor Kurosaki, there'll be new characters, mysteries, and maybe new areas of the map to explore. I really just want to know what's in those bunkers, man.
"Players have already discovered that there is a whole other part of Verdansk they haven't seen yet," he said. "They have found clues, and that there is more than meets the eye in this city. Season 4 will unravel some of those mysteries and unlock some of them for our players."
Modern Warfare and Warzone are still in the middle of Season 3, but Season 4 is expected to arrive some time in early June. Looking a little further ahead, Activision has now confirmed when it expects to launch Call Of Duty 2020.
