'Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare' Battle Royale Mode Is Imminent

'Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare' Battle Royale Mode Is Imminent

Another Update: Oh, hey, we have a trailer. Watch it, with your eyes, and note that yes, indeed, the battle royale mode is released tomorrow.

Update: the 'Classified' tab on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has become a countdown, so it seems that its Warzone battle royale mode is, indeed, imminent. This comes courtesy of Charlie Intel, who note that the clock is set to end, expire, come to a halt at 8am Pacific Time on March 10th. That's 3pm UK time, so probably just take the day off?

Original story: Rumours have been bouncing around for a while now about the existence Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's battle royale mode, Warzone. And it looks like the wait for the mode is almost over, as the first video footage of Warzone was published by YouTuber Chaos (thanks, VGC) - and then, inevitably, promptly removed.

We did get a quick look at it before it was pulled though and - according to the video, which seems to be legit - the mode will support crossplay and is set for release tomorrow. That's March 10th, the same launch date we reported just a few days ago.

The video also confirmed many other details about Warzone. For starters, it's a standalone Modern Warfare experience which means you don't need to have forked out for the main, full game in order to play. There will be two modes to choose from - one that allows respawning, and one that doesn't. You'll also be able to jump in solo, or in groups of twos or threes, and each game will contain up to 150 players.

New 'Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare' Feature Reignites Complaints About Realism

Chaos also reported that players will be able to use Plunder, an in-game currency, to buy gear and killstreaks as well as respawn tokens from "pre-defined Buy Stations". And speaking of respawning - and reminding you that this is all unconfirmed by Activision, right now - when you die for the first time, you will enter the Gulag for a chance to respawn by winning a 1v1 gunfight against another player.

A Zombie Royale Mode Is Finally Headed To 'Call Of Duty: Warzone'

And if you don't manage to take down your adversary? Don't worry - you can use Plunder at Buy Stations to purchase defeated teammates back into the game. Though as Plunder is reportedly the only way you can get killstreaks, you'd better hope your teammates think you're worth the expense.

The map itself looks huge and incorporates elements of classic maps such as Scrapyard, Broadcast, Terminal, and Overgrown. These are all tied together with brand new areas which contain fully custom-designed buildings in the in-game world of the battle royale. Vehicles such as choppers, trucks, and quad bikes will be available to help you traverse the vast terrain.

A Reddit user was able to capture many more details from the video before it was taken down, and you can find it here.

If you already own Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, you shouldn't have to do anything as the mode should unlock at some point tomorrow - assuming, of course, this intel, this leak, is correct. And if you decide to download the free-to-play, standalone battle royale version, you'll obviously have the opportunity to upgrade to the full Modern Warfare experience from it. Sounds like a win-win to us - fingers crossed that tomorrow does, indeed, deliver us some Warzone.
