'Resident Evil: Resistance' Reveals Two Creepy New Masterminds
Capcom has revealed two new villains that you'll be up against in the upcoming multiplayer offering, Resident Evil: Resistance, as well as two new maps. If you're concerned about the cash you'll need to fork out with all of these Resident Evil games on the horizon, you needn't worry - Resident Evil: Resistance comes bundled with Resident Evil 3 Remake which is currently set for release on 3 April, 2020.
Resident Evil: Resistance was first announced in September 2018 and is an online co-op for up to four players - a format which may seem similar to Left 4 Dead fans. Players will be up against one of the Masterminds who will do everything in their power to stop you and your team from escaping. You'll need to work together to avoid traps, blood-thirsty enemies, and other obstacles placed in your way. And just to add to the overall pressure, there will be a time limit you'll need to keep your eye on.
The first of the new Masterminds to be revealed is Alex Wesker. Not to be confused with the sunglasses-wielding Albert, you may remember Alex from Resident Evil: Revelations 2 and she has a much more subtle approach to taking you out. According to the announcement, Alex favours "putting her subjects through psychological horrors and experiments" and will do her best to keep you from escaping by manipulating the map to slow you down or throwing "enhanced" zombies in your path. And if you really piss her off, she might even throw in a carnivorous bioweapon named Yateveo. Aww.
The second new Mastermind is Ozwell E. Spencer, one of the founders of the Umbrella Corporation who has appeared throughout the Resident Evil series. This time, he takes a much more hands-on approach and will generate Disintegration Fields that will damage any player that passes through it. Both Alex and Ozwell will be joining the two previously confirmed Masterminds, Daniel Fabron and Annette Birkin.
And as for the new maps, players can look forward to exploring (escaping!) the Casino where "still-operating slot machines and chips strewn across the floor tell the eerie tale of how hastily it was deserted during the collapse of Raccoon City." The second new map is an Abandoned Park located just outside of Raccoon City and is home to both real and imagined horrors that you'll need to face to make it out alive.
Shortly after the initial announcement of Resident Evil: Resistance, Capcom assured fans that the multiplayer title would be "survival horror at heart" despite taking a step away from the usual formula of the series' favourites. Of course, they've done it before with mixed results, the most popular of these being the Outbreak series. Still, we haven't got long to wait and, as it's included with the hugely anticipated remake of Resident Evil 3, at least you won't be out of pocket if it doesn't meet your expectations.
