New P.T. Camera Hack Reveals The Most Unsettling Truth Of All
Pour one out for P.T. Even five years later, Hideo Kojima's playable teaser for the Silent Hill game that never was remains one of the most unsettling horror experiences of all time, and one that players are still uncovering secrets for, half a decade on.
For those that never actually got the chance to play P.T, which could be quite a few of you given that Konami has made it pretty much impossible to play via official channels, here's a quick primer: it was a brief first-person horror adventure that saw you navigate through an old house as you attempted to solve its esoteric puzzles and escape before Lisa - the horrifyingly mutilated and rotting ghost that stalked you through the house - caught up with you.
It was never entirely clear to me when Lisa would show up, but the very act of turning around in P.T became something of an extreme sport, as the ghoul could suddenly appear right behind you at pretty much any time. But here's the really unsettling truth - it turns out Lisa was literally always right behind you.
YouTuber Lance McDonald, best known for his work hacking into FromSoftware titles like Dark Souls and Bloodborne, has been hard at work attempting to wrest control of the camera from P.T so that he might unlock some of its many secrets. Naturally, he succeeded, and made the grim revelation regarding Lisa.

"I've been slowly working on looking for useful bits of code in PT for months, usually just messing around for a few hours a week and having no luck at all," Lance revealed to VG247. "I finally found all the code that handles the 'zoom in' when the player clicks the R3 button."
Lance also added on Twitter that he never got used to just how terrifying Lisa is, even while he was more in control of the game than perhaps anyone has ever been. "the number of times Lisa has grabbed me and scared the absolute shit out of my while trying to test patches is exhausting. I never get used to it," he wrote.
She actually attaches to the player's back as soon as you get the flashlight, here, I demonstrate how you can see some strange shadows. I then lock the camera in place and walk forward, showing how she's always there... following you... pic.twitter.com/zarhwjNmZz- Lance McDonald (@manfightdragon) September 9, 2019
Terrifyingly, it would seem that Lance's Lisa discovery is the tip of the iceberg. He mentioned that he's found "heaps" by playing around with the game's code, and is confident he has enough to make a full video soon. I'm as terrified as I am excited for that to drop.
