Ninja Will Be The First Gamer To Feature On The Cover Of ESPN Magazine

He's the face of Fortnite, some would even call him the face of Twitch, but Tyler "Ninja" Blevins is now the face of ESPN magazine - and he's the first gamer to feature on the cover, ever.

The publication, that gets released fortnightly (of course) by sports outlet ESPN, usually boasts the likes of Lionel Messi and Lebron James as their cover star - but not for the next issue.

In a Tweet this morning, Ninja said: "So excited to the first professional gamer to be featured on @espn the Magazine. Cover and profile will be shown on Sports Center tomorrow in the 7 AM EST hour."

ESPN already have a dedicated eSports section on their website, so shifting focus to their magazine publication was always going to happen - but that doesn't make it any less impressive.

It's a great nod to the growth and popularity of modern video games, where lines between between sports and gaming blur on a daily basis. And with the current popularity of streaming and eSports, in particular Fortnite, who better than Ninja to represent the gaming community.

No, not everyone is a fan of what he plays, what he does, or who he is, but it's the same for any 'regular' sports star. Lionel Messi fans hate Cristiano Ronaldo, but no one can deny the impact and success that he's given to football, and the same goes with Ninja for gaming.

We'll most likely see more individual gamers featured within the ESPN sphere pretty soon, especially when the outlet has signed deals to broadcast Overwatch and League of Legends competitions.

If you're interested in the Ninja interview, as his tweet says, you can tune into the ESPN Sports Centre at 12pm BST/4am PT/7am EST to watch a special feature, or you can purchase/subscribe to the magazine on the ESPN website.
