Nintendo Just Dropped A Surprise Direct Presentation Packed With Reveals

Nintendo Just Dropped A Surprise Direct Presentation Packed With Reveals

Well, you wait months for a new Nintendo Direct and the company just goes and... drops one without really telling anyone. Not that I'm complaining, mind. We've gone quite a while without any real Nintendo news to sink our teeth into, and there was a lot of news in this surprise presentation.

I'm here for to round up all the biggest news and reveals from the show. Because I care about you. But before we dive in, if you'd rather watch the whole 28-minute broadcast for yourself, you can do so below (or click to YouTube if there's no embedded player, just down there). Just be warned, there wasn't any massive news, so don't go expecting trailers for Breath of the Wild 2 or Metroid Prime 4, y'hear?

Let's assume you're busy and don't have time to sit and waste 28 minutes. I get that. I mean, I don't really get that because most of us are stuck inside for the foreseeable, but whatever. Allow me to take you through what you missed. Perhaps the juiciest bit of new, at least for Nintendo fans, was that we got confirmation of the next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighter... kind of.

Okay, Nintendo didn't actually tell us which fighter is coming next... but they did confirm that the incoming challenger would be from Nintendo's other fighting game, ARMS. The next DLC fighter drops in June, so we should know exactly which ARMS character is joining the fray by then. It's almost definitely Spring Man though, innit?

We also got a first look at the big Easter update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. There'll be egg-themed furniture to collect and new challenges to complete. It's all very cute, and lord knows we need that right now.

A few other first-party announcements: A new eShop puzzle game called Good Job! is available today. A compilation of various classic board and card games called Club House Games: 51 Worldwide Classics, is coming on June 5th. The Xenoblade Chronicles remaster is hitting Switch on May 29th, and features a brand new epilogue story.

Finally, the excellent Switch fitness game Ring Fit Adventure will be getting a free update that introduces a Rhythm Game mode where you can dance along to classic Nintendo tracks in a fun new way to stay active.

Burnout Paradise Remastered
Burnout Paradise Remastered

Of course, it wouldn't be a Nintendo Direct without a ton of ports, and this one didn't disappoint. BioShock: The Collection, The Borderlands Legendary Collection, and The XCOM 2 Collection are all headed to the console May 29th. As someone who's been waiting for Borderlands to come to Switch before finally giving the series a go, I'm particularly thrilled about that one.

A little further down the line, expect Saints Row 4: Re-Elected (March 27th), and Trials of Mana (April 24th ). The Elder Scrolls: Blades, Minecraft Dungeons, and Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus are all expected in the spring. We then have Mr. Driller Drill Land (June 25th ), The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 3 (June 30th ), Catherine: Full Body (July 7th ) and Vigor (autumn).

Oh, and Burnout Paradise Remastered will be on its way at a currently unspecified date, which is a nice surprise. Finally, two ports are available from today: Panzer Dragoon: Remake and Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. Now we can all stop asking Nintendo when the next Direct is. For like, at least a week. I hope.
