Nintendo Top Console Sales In June, But Not Because Of The Switch
Console rivalry has never been more intense. The battle for the top spot does not sleep, but out of the chaos we have a new champion in town.
Well, for June in the US.
A new report suggests Nintendo are the kings of selling consoles, but their crowning device might well surprise you.
Their flagship console, the Switch, has been pushed aside by a rework of an absolute fan favourite.
The NES Classic Edition was this month's highest unit-selling hardware platform. Who said you can't teach an old dog new tricks?
This is despite a rather late launch in June, which was obviously no problem when batting off competition from Sony, Microsoft, and other Nintendo devices.
If you were lucky enough to purchase one, you will find yourself playing up to 30 classic NES games. These include Donkey Kong, Metroid, Pac-Man, and Super Mario Bros.
The success didn't stop there for the video game company, however. Mario Tennis Aces claimed the top spot for video game sales, and that's without the inclusion of digital downloads.
Amazingly, Grand Theft Auto V was the third highest selling game of the month, and Far Cry 5 tops the sales for the entire year so far. GTA's climb might be due to the recent After Hours DLC, but you can't deny how impressive it is that a five-year-old game is so high up.
Here's a list of the top 20 selling games for June 2018 in the US:
1. Mario Tennis Aces*
