‘Overwatch’ Confirms Its Forthcoming 30th Hero Is The Medic Baptiste
Just a few days ago, we reported on the imminent introduction of a new Overwatch hero, based on some 'leaked' lore surrounding a chap called Jean-Baptiste Augustin. It was officially speculation, back then, with developers Blizzard not confirming the character's arrival.
Well, not they've put out an origins story trailer for Baptiste, showing his tough (to say the least) childhood - "steal, or starve" - and how he came to join the in-game baddies of Talon (before they subsequently turned on him). We previously had him down as a medic, and while that's still not formally disclosed, the video sure suggests it's the case given the kind of gear he's carrying around.
Check out the origins trailer for Baptiste below.
The video outlines the Haiti-born Baptiste as "a fighter for a better world", and documents how he survived the Omnic Crisis - a worldwide war that's a pretty big deal in Overwatch lore.
What we still don't have is a date when Baptiste will become playable - but when he does, he'll be hero number 30 for a game that continues to enjoy a strong player base two and a half years on from its launch.
To date, Overwatch has won over 30 major industry awards and been played by over 40 million people. Which isn't much to write home about against the likes of the F2P titles out there - but this *isn't* F2P, so, yeah. Bloody good going there, Blizzard.
