PlayStation 5 Consoles To Be Flown Via Air Freight To Meet Massive Demand
Sony is planning send out PlayStation 5 consoles to retailers next month via air freight, according to new reports. Apparently the company is looking into air travel as a way to ensure that it can meet the massive demand from consumers.
Analyst and reliable industry insider Daniel Ahmad first reported that Sony is using Delta to fly around 60 flights from October to ship consoles to retailers around the world. While this method will ensure PlayStation 5 consoles get to stores much quicker than they would if they went via sea, the move will be much more expensive for Sony. It's not clear by how much, but if you've ever compared flights and ferry prices, you have some idea. Now imagine how much it'd cost if you're paying to fill that flight with as many next-gen consoles as it can carry. Yikes.

This news comes just days after Sony announced its next PS5 showcase. On September 16th at 9pm BST, fans will be treated to a host of new information about the new console. While we still don't know what exactly to expect from the presentation, the assumption is that we'll finally be treated to price and release date reveals, as well as one or two surprise game announcements. Final Fantasy 16, anyone?
Last week, Microsoft confirmed that it'll launch the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on November 10th at £450 and £250 respectively. All eyes are now on Sony to see if it can match those prices with its own next-gen offerings, or if it'll attempt to justify a higher price point by impressing the fans with a night full of exclusive first-party reveals. I suspect the latter, but we'll find out soon enough.
For now, all we know is that the PlayStation 5 will launch at some point in November - although recent reports suggest it will arrive in the UK a little bit after it releases in the US.
