PlayStation 5 Price Appears On Spanish Website Ahead Of Tomorrow's Announcement

PlayStation 5 Price Appears On Spanish Website Ahead Of Tomorrow's Announcement

A new leak may have revealed the PlayStation 5 price a full day before Sony's official announcement. Several images taken from a major Spanish retailer appear to have confirmed the cost of the digital and standard editions of the next-gen console, with the pricing lining up with a number of earlier leaks.

Both images come from El Corte Inglés, via AllGamesDelta on Twitter. Pictures allegedly from the store's internal systems show that the standard PS5 is priced €499.90 ( roughly £460). The cheaper digital edition meanwhile, appears to cost €399.90 (£369).

While it's entirely possible that these prices could be placeholders ahead of the official reveal tomorrow, it's worth noting that they do line up with previous pricing leaks from Amazon France and French retailer Carrefour.

These prices would also make sense in regards to the recently announced pricing for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, which Microsoft will sell from November 10th at £449 and £250 respectively. Many believed that Sony would attempt to charge more for the PS5 while also keeping the price as close to Microsoft's next-gen offerings as possible, and this seems to do that.

Obviously the digital PS5 for £369 doesn't quite match the Xbox Series S at £250, but the two machines aren't exactly equivalent. The Series S is being billed as a cheaper next-gen alternative with 7.5GB of usable RAM, around 4 teraflops of GPU performance, and will launch with the same CPU found on the Xbox Series X. For comparison, the Xbox Series X is confirmed to be packing 16GB RAM and 12 teraflops of GPU performance.

The only difference between the standard PS5 and its digital counterpart, as far as we're aware, is that the latter doesn't have a disc-drive. That was never going to drive the price down that much.

Hopefully we'll find out whether these latest price leaks are accurate soon enough. Sony's next PlayStation 5 showcase is scheduled for September 16th at 9pm BST, during which it's widely expected that the price and release date will finally be revealed - along with a number of surprise video game announcements.
