PlayStation Unveils The Most-Downloaded PS Plus Titles Of The Last Ten Years

PlayStation Unveils The Most-Downloaded PS Plus Titles Of The Last Ten Years

PlayStation has unleashed a fascinating infographic as part of its PS Plus birthday celebrations. The popular subscription service turned ten earlier this month, and has marked the occasion with a trio of free games and a truly eye-opening look back at the past decade of consumer habits.

As you can see below, PlayStation Plus has been on quite a journey since June 29th, 2010. In that time, there have been over 1000 free games and 41.5 million users. As PlayStation boasts, PS Plus would have the 36th largest population in the world, if it were a country. 36th. That's not that much of a flex, really, is it?

That's all well and good, but what's really interesting is the part that details the five most-redeemed free games. If I'm being honest, I can't quite wrap my head around what I'm seeing. I'm baffled by it, is what I am. Take a look.

Just in case you can't quite make it out, the top five most-redeemed free games from the last ten years of PlayStation Plus are as follows: Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. Sonic Forces. Shadow Of The Colossus. Call Of Duty: Black Ops III. Destiny 2.

Most of these I get. Call Of Duty is one of the biggest franchises on the planet, of course it was going to do week. Shadow Of The Colossus is regarded as an all-time great. Hell, even Destiny 2 makes sense given the sheer amount of people who picked up the first one were probably more than happy to sample the second game free of charge.

What I can't reconcile is the fact that Sonic Forces made the cut. To be clear, Sonic Forces is quite easily one of the worst games in the entire franchise, and it's up against some pretty stiff competition. It's a laborious slog of a game that takes itself way more seriously than an adventure starring a blue hedgehog that runs super fast has any right to. How did it slip in there?

My best guess? It was the free game for March 2020, one month after Sonic The Hedgehog dominated cinemas. Maybe people were desperate to get their Sonic fix, and they saw a free game starring the hedgehog? That's the only way I can see this making sense. Congratulations to Sonic, I guess.

Oh, and if you were wondering, the five most played online multiplayer games on PlayStation are GTA V, Rainbow Six Siege, Black Ops III, Destiny, and Black Ops IIII. Good to see Sonic didn't sneak in there somehow.
