Pokémon Diamond & Pearl Merchandise Leaks Suggest Remakes Could Be On The Way
Released way back in 2006, Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl were the fourth generation of mainline Pokémon titles, and the first to arrive on Nintendo DS. They were, at the time, absolutely breathtaking games that introduced all kinds of revolutionary new features to the series, including 3D(ish) visuals, online features, and some handy touch-screen functionality to make battles and menu navigation a doddle.
For a long time, Pokémon Diamond & Pearl were easily my favourite games in the franchise - an impressive feat given that Ruby & Sapphire nearly put me off the series for good following the perfection of Gold & Silver.
I got way, way into Diamond thanks to the ability to trade and battle online, and distinctly remember it being the first game I put over 100 hours into. It was also the first and only Pokémon game that I ever completed the Pokédex for, mostly because back then there was a challenging but not unreasonable number of monsters to catch.
Naturally then, I often dream of returning to the Sinnoh region in a full 3D, HD remake with all the bells and whistles, and the 3DS remakes of Ruby & Sapphire (which actually changed my opinion on gen three completely) only served to fuel that desire even further.
The good news is that we might potentially be getting just such a remake in 2020, at least according to one fan's convincing theory based on some leaked Pokémon merchandise.
Pokémon superfan Paul Ryan, who runs the online Pokémon merchandise database Pokéshopper, has claimed that the next games after the upcoming Sword & Shield will indeed be Nintendo Switch remakes of the gen four titles.

In a pretty convincing video uploaded by Ryan, he points out that a lot of the upcoming Pokémon merch for 2020 will be re-releases of gen four merch, which he reasons points to Pokémon Diamond and Pearl remakes potentially making an appearance in some form during 2020.
While it wouldn't be unusual for legendary Pokémon llike Dialga and Palkia to show up on official merchandise, Ryan argues that the inclusion of smaller gen four Pokémon like Pachirisu making a return could be seen as a move on the part of the The Pokémon Company to drum up hype/nostalgia for Diamond & Pearl.
Many re-releases of Gen 4 merchandise to appear in 2020 calendar. Darkrai, Dialga, Palkia, Arceus specifically added. Releases begin as early as December 2019.- Paul Ryan (@Paulrobertryan) September 27, 2019
This is all pure speculation at the moment, but it is the speculation of a fan who knows the Pokémon business inside and out, which is why I'm inclined to take more notice of his theory.
If nothing else, we know that Game Freak has no problem remaking old Pokémon games, and if we're getting a follow-up to Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby on 3DS,Diamond & Pearl remakes would surely be the next logical step.
