PS3 Servers For Uncharted And The Last Of Us Turning Off In September

PS3 Servers For Uncharted And The Last Of Us Turning Off In September

In what can best be described as a surprise to everyone, multiplayer servers for a number of Naughty Dog-made PlayStation 3 titles - namely The Last of Us and The Last of Us: Left Behind, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception - are still live, right now. Go on, go take a look. Up and running. Chugging along. Still getting used, this deep into the PS4 era.

But! If you were about to dive in for the first time in absolutely flipping ages, a word of warning: don't get used to it. Because these servers are in their final days. After almost 10 years of constant activity, Naughty Dog is calling time on its previous-gen multiplayer fun.

As the studio posts on its blog, it's "been honoured to support the passionate communities that have grown around [the servers] for almost a decade. We have so many fond memories from playing alongside you throughout the years."

But on September 3 at 5pm Pacific Time, Naughty Dog will be pulling the plug, and said servers will finally flatline. However, the studio isn't about to let its PS3 hits go out without a bang, so has an offer that will surely appeal to anyone who still has their old PlayStations handy.

"We wanted to make sure we gave multiplayer on PS3 a proper send-off. From now until September 3, all multiplayer services will remain intact and we're making all multiplayer DLC for Uncharted 2, Uncharted 3 and The Last of Us on PS3 totally free. Just fire up PlayStation Store and look for our new free Uncharted 2, Uncharted 3 and The Last of Us multiplayer DLC bundles, which include all gameplay and vanity items.

"Whether you're an active player or want to play a few rounds for old time's sake, there's never been a better time to experience the full breadth of Uncharted 2, Uncharted 3, The Last of Us and Left Behind multiplayer on PS3."

So that's a treat, isn't it? It is! Needless to say that these games are all solid-gold classics of their platform and era. And with The Last of Us Part II amongst the most anticipated titles on Sony's schedule right now, seeing where that series started off on the console that made it, for free, is a sweet touch.

I might dust off the PS3 myself for this - how about you? Will you be powering up the old black brick for some old-ish-school multiplayer action?
