'PT' Player Character's Face Finally Revealed Thanks To Hacker

'PT' Player Character's Face Finally Revealed Thanks To Hacker

Konami might have unceremoniously thrown Hideo Kojima's Silent Hills in the bin back in 2014, but its legacy has endured. This is largely down to PT, the short playable demo that was intended to build hype for the doomed project. Instead, Kojima's masterful teaser ended up becoming regarded as one of the most immersive and mysterious horror experiences of all time in its own right.

In the years since Konami's cancellation of Silent Hills and its surprisingly determined efforts to remove all trace of PT from the internet, the game's legend has only grown. Developers have put their together their own remakes or original games inspired by the short horror adventure, while hackers and modders have attempted to peel back the game's code and reveal its secret.

YouTuber and hacker Lance McDonald has had more success than most in this regard. You might remember that he was the one who revealed a number of chilling, hitherto unknown PT details back in September. Among these were a cut bathroom scene that was clearly considered too much to include in the final demo (let that sink in), and the horrifying revelation that the ghostly antagonist Lisa is in fact right behind the player at all times.

McDonald's latest find isn't anywhere near as scary as his last two discoveries, but it's still an interesting little piece of trivia for fellow PT/Silent Hills fans. The hacker has finally answered a years-old mystery, and uncovered the face of the character you're controlling throughout the first-person demo.

The identity of the the character might not actually come as a huge surprise. It's... Norman Reedus. Anyone who got to the end of PT will remember that The Walking Dead star appeared in the final cutscene, but it's pretty cool to see that we were actually controlling a Reedus character model the whole time.

Personally, I kind of always assumed that last cutscene with Reedus was a completely separate thing. While that's obviously who we were supposed to think we'd been controlling the whole time, I never thought we'd literally been pushing a version of the actor down the twisted corridors of PT the whole time.

Reedus sadly never got to star in the full Silent Hills video game, but he would go on to work with Kojima on this year's Death Stranding. Kojima himself has teased that his next project might be another stab at the horror genre, so perhaps he'll team up with his good chum Reedus once again.
