‘Rainbow Six Siege’ Will Start Telling Stories In 2020, Ubisoft Confirms
The hit online tactical shooter Rainbow Six Siege will expand its immersive horizons in 2020 by introducing significant story elements, according to Ubisoft's Alexander Karpazis.
Karpazis - presentation director on R6S - spoke with IGN (via PC Gamer) about what's coming up for the game next year. Turns out, there's plenty - as befits a game that continues to perform strongly almost five years after its initial release. And foremost amongst it is all-new story content.
"For year five, the story elements are going to be huge for us," Karpazis told IGN's On The Six, its dedicated R6S show. "We're going to have a really important story arc, that kicks off in season one, and involved Nighthaven. You'll see it in the operators, you'll see it in the battle pass, you'll see it in all the stories we tell for year five."
Nighthaven, BTW, is a private military organisation introduced to the game as part of its new operation, Shifting Tides. He also discussed the two new operators coming to the game with its new season, Kali and Wamai. You can read about those additions on GAMINGbible, here.
It remains to be seen just what form this story content will take, within R6S. But it's not the first time that Ubisoft has injected such elements into the shooter. In 2018 it launched the Outbreak operation, which showed the in-game characters (the operators) developing clearer personalities.
There's also the Rainbow Six Universe to consider, which Ubisoft announced in early 2019. Its 'The Hammer and the Scalpel' trailer pointed the way to more story-based content; and the upcoming spin-off Rainbow Six Quarantine (officially revealed at E3 2019) is part of this wider universe, too, albeit set several years in the future compared to Siege itself.
GAMINGbible jetted over to Japan recently for the Rainbow Six Siege Pro League Final, in Tokoname. From that, you can read an interview with Francois-Xavier Deniele, R6S's esports director, and watch our interview with the tournament's winners, Na'Vi, below.
