Ronda Rousey Announces New Video Game Streaming Deal With Facebook

Ronda Rousey Announces New Video Game Streaming Deal With Facebook

Former UFC and WWE star Ronda Rousey has always been open about her love of gaming. She's made no secret of her passion for World of Warcraft in the past, and even starred as Sonya Blade in last year's Mortal Kombat 11. Now, Rousey is taking her gaming career to the next level by dipping a toe into the video game streaming pool.

In a post on Instagram, Rousey described streaming video games as "one of the rawest and most authentic mediums". She'll be streaming exclusively on Facebook, making her debut on the social media site with an Australian bushfire charity stream next Tuesday. Expect regular streams to follow every Monday morning after that.

Check out the announcement trailer she shared to YouTube below. It looks like it should be a pretty good time for fans of Rousey and gaming.

"Gaming has always been a huge part of my life, and I can't wait to share that passion with my millions of fans on Facebook Gaming," Rousey said in a statement. "Through my streams, people can hang out with the real me, not the 'character' version of myself they're used to seeing, though the 'Rowdy One' can't always be contained."

Rousey also shared a pretty deep story about the first time she played Pokémon Blue for the first time. I don't know that I would have made such a canny observation at the tender age of 11... but absolutely fair play to her.

"One of my favorite gaming memories happened when I was 11 years old," she began. "I encountered an Articuno on PokémonBlue for the first time. I was awestruck and thought she looked like an angel. Looking back at that same image now, I'm amazed how powerful our imaginations can be and how gaming encourages us to imagine what our reality could be instead of just accepting it for what it is-a skill that has helped me in my fighting and entertainment careers countless times."

As various streaming platforms continue to fight over talent, Facebook Gaming has already signed up a few big names in an attempt to rival Twitch and Mixer's substantial offerings.

The likes of Corinna Kopf, Jeremy "Disguised Toast" Wang, and Gonzalo "ZeRo" Barrios are some of the platform's biggest "gets" - not to mention two incredibly well-loved and massive Spanish-speaking gaming creators: Sergio "NexxuzHD" Montez and Manuel "LOLiTO FDEZ" Fernández. It'll be interesting to see how this new addition to the mix plays out.
