Someone Threw A Crab At A ‘Super Smash Bros. Melee’ Tournament Winner

While fighting games are known to ignite tempers and tensions at tournaments can get heated, this has reached a strange new level. A spectator at the Pound 2019 tournament in Maryland, US threw a dead crab at Super Smash Bros. Melee pro Juan "Hungrybox" Debiedma.

Debiedma had just won the grand finals of the tournament, despite almost getting knocked out of the tournament earlier in the day, when someone in the crowd through the raw crustacean at him.

You can actually see Debiedma's reaction as the moment was caught on camera:

The boy is not pleased.

As Kotaku points out, Debiedma is not a fan favourite despite being an excellent player, and it's largely down to his choice of character. He's famous for playing Jigglypuff, a character that is not only defensive but also has a move that sends other players to sleep.

Most Smash characters in pro player are all about aggression, sprinting into fights and outmaneuvering opponents. Jigglypuff baits characters in and sends them to sleep. While it takes great skill to play a defensive game at a pro level, some fans will see that as a cheesy move.
