‘Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’ Is Amazon USA’s Biggest-Selling Game Of 2018
News in from our across-the-pond pals: Amazon's best-selling video game in the USA, for 2018, was the Nintendo Switch exclusive Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Congrats, Mario and company!
Now, the latest Smash Bros. is a darn good game - this we know, and GAMINGbible named it as one of our top 10 games of 2018. (Indeed, it was one of two 'Bros'-related releases you really needed in your life in December, alongside that documentary about the pop band. Have you watched it yet? Goodness, what a treat.)
We also named Smash one of the best exclusives available on Switch. Suffice to say: it's great.
But its sales success at the commercial juggernaut that is Amazon is something of a surprise, given that Ultimate only released in December, whereas other standout titles of 2018 - God of War, Marvel's Spider-Man, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Black Ops III, for example - either had a lot more time on sale, or were available for multiple platforms.
But looking at Amazon USA's top ten for 2018, we can see that the Switch has had a very good year. Switch exclusives make up six entries in the ten, a solid 60% of the chart. Makes sense, we suppose - as of late November, some 8.2 million Switch consoles had been sold in the States, since its launch, and you can bet a bunch more got shifted around Christmas.
Of the multi-platform releases, no Xbox One version sales made the top ten. Nor is there a single Xbox exclusive in the list. Ouch.
For those that love a list, here is Amazon USA's top ten best-selling games of 2018. (Info comes via videogamer.com.) America sure does love Nintendo, huh.
