Creative Director Of ‘The Division 2’ Jokes That He’s Making A New Splinter Cell
While a new Splinter Cell game is no laughing matter, that's not stopped the creative director of The Division 2 tweeting that he's working on it. Not only him but Dan Hay and Roman Campos-Oriola. Though, considering these three devs are all creative directors of major Ubisoft series, it's fair to say this is in fact a joke.
And, considering the tweet went out and 10.30pm and the devs have glasses of wine in hand, I'm going to go with they were having a bit of fun.

Can't wait for #E3.

That's been confirmed by a - what I'm going to presume is a stressed - Ubisoft representative telling PC Gamer "Julian was obviously joking as Julian likes to do. It looks like our creative directors are having fun right now. We do not have any announcements to make at this time". I assume stressed because how many emails must they have received after that tweet went out - the entire gaming press reaching out to confirm whether Gerighty had seriously just tweeted out the existence of one of the most in-demand games at the moment.
Gerighty continued tweeting into the night, which I'm sure didn't raise the blood pressure of anyone in Ubi's PR department:
Ok - plz don't retweet. I may be in trouble.- Julian Gerighty (@jgerighty) May 14, 2019
ok- how do you delete a tweet?- Julian Gerighty (@jgerighty) May 15, 2019
Asking for a friend.
So, is there anything positive we can take away from this tweet that made our hearts skip a beat? Well, clearly Splinter Cell is in Ubisoft's sights and its developers are talking about it. We know that the publisher is thinking about reviving the series but is it too soon to expect a reveal at E3 next month? Perhaps, but maybe a little teaser trailer at the end of the show, just three green lights and a line from Michael Ironside.
