The Elder Scrolls Mod That Turns The Khajiit Into Garfield Is Horrifying

The Elder Scrolls Mod That Turns The Khajiit Into Garfield Is Horrifying

When you think of Khajiit (which I imagine is pretty frequently), you probably think of the walking talking cats of the modern Elder Scrolls games. Since The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind, Khajiit have had fur, tails, and an irrepressible urge to sell you their wares. However, that wasn't always the case, back in The Elder Scrolls: Arena, the Khajiit were a people who had delicate, feline features, but they looked much more human. There is, however, a mode that fixes that, sort of. You can make your Arena Khajiit more like cats, or rather, like one specific cat: 1978 era Garfield.

'All Khajiits are 1978 Garfield' is a mod that does exactly what its name suggests, replacing the human Khajiit with a truly messed up buff, bipedal version of the lasagne scarfing cat. It truly has to be seen to be believed:

The mod's creator 'Cum41' isn't wordy in their description of the mod, saying simply: "This turns all Khajiits into 1978 Garfield. Don't ask me to fix anything because I'm probably not going to."

Perhaps they were channelling the ill-tempered cat when they uploaded the mod. Not every mod maker can be an Odie, after all.

'The Father Of Elder Scrolls' Is Making A Successor To 'Daggerfall'

Released back in 1994, Elder Scrolls: Arena was a huge RPG. While later Elder Scrolls games focused on particular regions - Morrowind, Cyrodiil, and Skyrim, for instance - Arena let you travel across the whole of Tamriel. It was a lot emptier than those later games, but for it's time it was a hugely ambitious game. While, recognisably an Elder Scrolls game, featuring the races, factions, and locations Bethesda returned to in the later games, there are some notable differences. The Khajiit being a key one.

The Khajiit are described in Arena as "born of the desert, where life is cruel and harsh and death comes on vultures wings. Thou art feline and sleek, deadly hunters of the wastes...". In the game you learn there are legends Khajiit descended from a race of cats, even if they do now look like humans. Some Khajiit characters in the game wear body paint that harks back to their ancestry, emphasising their feline qualities, but they are undeniably more human than cat.

In the later games, Bethesda changed the Khajiit to actually look like cats, in a change up similar to transformation of the Klingons in original Star Trek and the later series:

So, if you want to retcon your Elder Scrolls experience to bring it (somewhat) in line with the later games, this is clearly the mod for you. Though, it does make for a perverse spin on a Khajiit.
