'The Last Of Us Part 2' Devs Warn One Playthrough Won't Show Everything
If you think you're going to get the full experience of The Last of Us Part II in a single playthrough, think again. According to new information from developer Naughty Dog, the story is so open that "you may completely miss" entire sections of it in your first playthrough.
"In this game, we've gone so far in making the level design open that there are actually entire story moments, entire combat encounters, full scripted sequences that you may completely miss," said The Last of Us Part II's co-director, Anthony Newman, in a video interview on the PlayStation blog (thanks, IGN).
"And there are things that we feel like, even though a portion of our player base may never see these things, the fact that when you do encounter them, you feel like you discovered them, it lends them this charm and this magic I think is unique to games that this happened to me, because of what I did and the place I explored."
In related news, Sony recently revealed that the person - or persons - responsible for The Last of Us Part II's recent story spoilers was not a former Naughty Dog employee.

When videos of gameplay - including key cutscenes and major story beats - were leaked, devastating fans and the development team alike, it had been widely reported that the leak came via a disgruntled former employee of developer Naughty Dog. But while rumours were rife that someone aggrieved at the studio's alleged "crunch culture" - a systemic pattern of long, punishing working hours to get a game finished on time - had leaked the footage, Sony now says the individual(s) responsible are not affiliated with Sony Interactive Entertainment or Naughty Dog.
We also recently discovered the sequel will gobble up a whopping 100GB of your hard drive space, and physical versions of the game will reportedly contain two discs. So as Sarah reminded us a few weeks back, brace yourself a sizeable installation, too.
Amazon appeared to leak the release date for The Last of Us Part II just a little while ago, but the game was later delayed indefinitely earlier this month amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Naughty Dog has since, however, confirmed the eagerly anticipated sequel is set to release on 19th June 2020.
