The Rainbow Six Siege battle pass is back. Offering free and paid unlocks, you'll now be rewarded with a whole host of cosmetic items and alpha packs simply for playing the competitive shooter.

The 'Around the World' pass that is available from now until April 22 contains 50 rewards that can be unlocked by climbing through 35 tiers of levels. Those unlocks range from cosmetic items for a selection of operators, alpha packs (which can contain cosmetics for an operator or weapon), and boosters (which increase the amount of renown you can earn in matches - the currency you can spend to unlock new operators, attachments, and cosmetics).

Ubisoft

The battle pass is tied into the story that's been teased out in recent Siege trailers. Dr. Harishva "Harry" Pandey, the new head of Rainbow, is touring the world screening candidates for the elite team. This battle pass lightly develops that story, focusing on Harry's meetings with Thatcher, Doc, Dokkaebi, Ash, Mira, and Buck. Each operator has unique skins that can be unlocked in the battle pass, and they'll tell something of the operators' history.

For a better sense of the new story, be sure to watch the 'Hammer and Scalpel' trailer:

The story is picked up in the 'Tournament of Champions' trailer.

While there are elements of the battle pass that anyone can unlock, to get the full experience you'll need to put the premium track. That costs 1200R6C, or £7.99 ($10 in US). That gives you access to all 35 tiers and every item that can be unlocked. Buying into the pass also gives you a full bundle for Castle, netting you some nice skins and attachments for the OG anchor. Though, bear in mind, that buying the battle pass doesn't immediately unlock all the items, you will still need to level through the 35 tiers before April 22 to get everything the battle pass offers.

Battle passes have been on the horizon in Siege for over a year now, so it's great to see how it will actually be implemented in the shooter. New cosmetics for the operators we've been playing with for years is certainly good, but seeing the battle pass be used as a tool to tell a story is an interesting approach. As with the cosmetics, it's going to give us a fresh look at the operators, some of which we've known since 2015.

The 'Around the World' pass is out now so if you want to maximise your time to progress through it before April 22, you're going to want to dive in sharpish.
