'The Walking Dead: The Final Season' Goes Exclusive To Epic Games Store

'The Walking Dead: The Final Season' Goes Exclusive To Epic Games Store

Epic's brand-new Store will be the only place (for *new* PC players) to buy the final few episodes of The Walking Dead: The Final Season, says its new developer, Skybound Entertainment.

Skybound picked up the finale where the now-closed Telltale Games left off, but it seems Fortnite creator Epic gave a unnoticed helping hand to push the anticipated title to its deserved finish.

"The team at Epic owns a major chapter in the history of the game industry," Skybound president, Dan Murray, and CEO, Ian Howe, explained in a joint-statement [via Game Informer].

"We're excited to work together on their latest transformative event with the launch of the Epic Games Store. Epic stepped up to the plate immediately to work with us in order to bring the original team back together and ensure fans will receive the completed season of Telltale's The Walking Dead: The Final Season."

For those who already own The Walking Dead Season Pass, or if you've purchased The Final Season via another store, you'll still have download access to the last few episodes through your initial store of choice.

But if you haven't, then the only possible way to own The Final Season on PC is to buy through the Epic Games Store. Don't worry, Steam won't mind, just this once. Players on Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch are presumably unaffected.

You can only wonder whether Telltale Games would've ventured down a similar path, if it hadn't suddenly closed this year.

The studio left around 250 employees jobless without warning, and all without severance packages. Thankfully, the gaming community came together to do what it could to re-employ those who lost work, and ultimately the conclusion to one of Telltale's better series went ahead.

Skybound owner and The Walking Dead creator, Robert Kirkman, gathered most of the game's original development team, appropriately naming themselves "Still Not Bitten", to produce the final episodes.
