'Red Dead Online' Gold Bar Microstransactions Are Up And Running
Gold Bar microtransactions are now available in Red Dead Online, allowing players to spend real-world money with the aim of *improving* gameplay.
As discovered by Rockstar Intel, prices on the PlayStation Store range from £4.49/$4.99 for 25 Gold Bars (a one-time special offer, usually costing £8.99/$9.99), to £89.99/$99.99 for 350 Gold Bars.
Rockstar Games also released a new Red Dead Online BETA Status Update, noting that "1.05 has been released, addressing general improvements to fix game stability, save data and to address exploits."
But all that's kinda boring. The studio later explained a method to earn a handful, or two, of Gold Bars for free. All you have to do is play the BETA any time before next Thursday, a feat 99% of you have accomplished by now.
"As a thank you for your ongoing support, we are awarding everyone who has played from the Red Dead Online Beta launch through this Thursday, December 20th with a gift of 15 additional Gold Bars," Rockstar noted.
Awards will start rolling out today - you'll get a little pop-up on screen when yours arrives. But, if it doesn't, or you haven't played Online yet, all Gold Bar gifts will be delegated by Monday, 24 December. Don't miss this freebie people. But wait, there's more...!
Says Rockstar: "As an added thank you to players who pre-ordered Red Dead Redemption 2, and those who purchased either the Special or Ultimate Edition, we are awarding additional RDO$ gifts."
Special Edition owners will receive RDO$100, Ultimate Edition RDO$1,000, and anyone who pre-ordered will bank RDO$100 (in addition to Ultimate and Special Edition gifts). Online dollars will be automatically added to your character's balance come Friday, 21 December.
And that's about it, currency wise. The post also mentions updates for early 2019, which will address "popular feedback". This includes new anti-griefing measures, and other updates to improve gameplay balance. New features, modes, and additional Red Dead Online gameplay content updates could make an appearance in the new year, too.
