You Can Now Download The Sims 4 For Free

Many people will remember The Sims as a vital part of their upbringing. The game taught us everything we needed to know about budgeting and prioritising, forcing us to start off with the affordable Spartan Special Single Bed and the Halogen Heaven Lamp, before we could go a bit more baller and splash out on a set of the Parisienne Dining Table chairs and the Faux Bearskin Rug.

Or you could just use the 'Motherlode' cheat and create your dream mansion, before getting bored and locking all of your Sims in a room so they piss themselves.

Well, if you want to relive your twisted youth, you can not only download Sims 4 (yep, times have changed A LOT!), but you can also do it for free.

The official Twitter account for the game broke the news to the world yesterday, writing: "Simmers, tag a friend who should get The Sims 4 for free! The game is free on PC and Mac via Origin until May 28th."

A later tweet added: "Once you download The Sims 4 Standard Edition Game during this promotional period it'll be yours to keep forever."

That's right, this isn't just one of those scams where you download something for a free trial and end up forking out £50 a month for the rest of your life without realising, the game will be yours for eternity.

The freebie is only available for a limited time - until 28 May, as they said - so you'll have to be quick. Just head over to the Origin website to get in on the offer.

Sims fans were delighted with the news, with one tweeting: "That's so cool! Go get the game, people!"

Someone else commented: "That's so nice I'm gonna give it to my sister since she can't go on my origin and might want to have her own game for herself. Thanks so much sims team."

Another said: "I'm literally telling all my friends you don't understand how much I love the sims."

A fourth added: "What an amazing opportunity!! My stream chat is going INSANE right now!!! THANK YOU THE SIMS!!!!"

Mind you, not everyone was happy - many people who had already purchased the game started kicking off, saying it wasn't fair that they'd handed over cold, hard cash when others got to enjoy the game for free.

No bother, though, as The Sims account hit back with a friendly message that said: "Hey! If you purchased the game from Origin and meet the eligibility requirements (within 24 hrs if you played it, within 14 days of purchase if not), you can process the refund here: http://x.ea.com/58231."
