Google Trolls Flat Earthers By Adding New Feature To Google Maps

While the ubiquitous presence of Google is definitely something to be worried about - George Orwell himself couldn't have imagined the extent to which it knows things about every single aspect of our lives (BECAUSE THEY LISTEN TO OUR EVERY WORD AND WATCH US THROUGH OUR WEBCAMS) - we have to hand it to them for this marvellous little bit of trolling.

In what amounts to a cheeky middle finger to all the Flat Earthers out there - and there are way too many, given that that it's scientific fact the Earth is a sphere - the multimedia company has, on the sly, rolled out a change that will infuriate those who think that our lovely planet of Earth is flat.

When you zoom all the way out on Google Maps now, instead of displaying a flat Meractor projection of the world - like the kind you often see in atlases, where the world is projected onto a cylinder and adjusted so that all the parallels of latitude have the same length as the equator - you now see a sphere floating in space.

What's more, you can twist it and turn it and revolve it in any direction so you can see just how close Alaska - on the Western-most point of the map - is to Russia on the East. Just like a globe. Remember those things?

Needless to say, upon making the discovery of the change, a few people took to social media to rub it in the faces of those who deny the facts.

Of course, this really shouldn't be a newsworthy item, but we're living in very strange times right now. So even if Google are listening to every word we say and reading every word we write and tracing every move we make, here's to you, Google. You did good.
