Activision Blizzard Has Made A Nightmare Browser Experience About Being A Gamer

Activision just really wants to know if you're gamer

Here at GAMINGbible, we're not usually stumped by gaming experiences. We've seen a lot of wild products, gimmicks, and games in our time but Activision Blizzard's Gallery of the Gamer showcase has really baffled us.

The website is something of a mystery. It's an interactive gallery where pieces within this virtual experience discuss the idea of being a gamer and what that means. As beautiful on the surface the sentiment is, it's also the strangest thing we've seen on the internet in a long time.

The intro to the experience says, "Welcome to the Gallery of the Gamer - An interactive exhibit that explores the six different segments that make up the diverse gaming community. By exploring the motivations, identity and behaviours of gamers, this exhibit will challenge the stereotypical perceptions of gamers and paint a more complete picture of the gamer audience."

And then you're put into a gallery "Are You A Gamer?" is plastered on a large virtual wall with two hands beside the title. Hovering over the hands makes them move and we are very uncomfortable with how they emerge and great you - we don't like them at all.

Interacting with exhibits tells you a little more about the art pieces within the virtual tour - from looking at a man whose mind is split on gaming identities, to a hanging mobile with many faces summing up what a modern gamer looks like.

The idea behind Gallery of the Gamer aims to evauluate the idea of the word "gamer". Who calls themself a gamer, why they do that, and why are there others who like video games but don't claim the title. Why is it that some people avoid telling others that video games are a medium they indulge in?

Although the hands at the beginning terrify us and we're still not sure if this is some early Halloween project, the intent behind these questions is thought-provoking at least. If you're interested in taking a look at the project yourself, here's the link to do that.
