Apple Might Be Releasing A New iPhone In March

We're going to get a red iPhone!

We all know that Apple releases the new iPhones in September - and people are already spreading rumours about what the iPhone 8 is going to look like. But according to Japanese tech blog Macotakara, Apple is going to release a new iPhone in March.

What?! That's so soon... we're not prepared!

Macotakara has predicted new releases in the past, so it might be true. They think that an iPhone 7 in red might be available to buy in March. Like the red iPods, it might be part of a charity fundraiser to raise funds for HIV/Aids.

An iPhone in red?! It's never been red before...

It's been 10 whole years since Apple created the iPhone and changed history - let's take a stroll along memory lane...

2007: The First iPhone Dropped 10 Years Ago

It's crazy to think that the iPhone is a decade old - it seems like we've had them forever. The first iPhone got rid of the keypad for the touchscreen - remember when you had to press buttons like a fool? Those days were over! The change meant it was more like a computer that fitted in your pocket.

Steve Jobs said: "Apple is going to reinvent the phone," and boy was he right.

2008: iPhone 3G

The second-generation phone got 3G support, the top data speed and then people really got on board. After all, there's nothing more important than really fast Internet! The App Store was also launched this year so it was a HUGE DEAL. Games, people!

2009: iPhone 3GS

This is when Apple started putting an "s" on the end when they did a minor upgrade - apparently it stands for speed. In 2009, the iPhone got video recording and an upgraded camera - and a voice control but it wasn't called Siri yet. Aw, Siri.

2010: iPhone 4

After the small changes of the previous year, Apple went big with the iPhone 4. It was sleeker, looked more modern and had a Retina display - it had a massively increased pixel count. It also had a front-facing camera - what did we even do before that? Apparently we didn't take selfies so we can singlehandedly blame Apple for ushering in the age of narcissism. The iPhone 4 also had FaceTime.

2011: iPhone 4S

Another "s"! It had an upgraded camera and better software (iOS 5.0) and Siri finally got a name but apart from that there were no significant changes.

2012: iPhone 5

This time there was a big change in the iPhone. It had an extra-tall screen, the Lightning connector and had a lighter aluminium casing - and the unfortunately rather buggy Apple Maps which took over from Google Maps. This was the beginning of the modern era of the iPhone.

2013: iPhone 5C & iPhone 5S

Apple decided to release two iPhones every September - the iPhone 5C had a few cosmetic changes but was basically the same as the iPhone 5, it was just a good option for someone who wanted a new phone. iOS 7 was launched so multitasking apps would work and the Control Centre was introduced. But it was the iPhone 5S that was the flagship model for 2013; it had a revamped design, Touch ID and a 64-bit A7 processor. It also looked different; brighter icons and translucent menus that we still have today.

2014: iPhone 6 & iPhone 6 Plus

Another design revamp; the iPhone 6 has a larger screen and more pixels, a better camera for photos and videos. The iPhone 6 Plus has a screen of 5.5 inches, making it the biggest iPhone ever and closer to iPad mini territory.

2015: iPhone 6S

Almost the exact same as the iPhone 6, it's a little thicker and heavier. But it has Force Touch and Live Photos.

This one was a "Special Edition" - a successor to the iPhone 5S. It has a four-inch screen and the same design as the 5S but the upgrades in hardware of an iPhone 6S, like rear camera, iOS 9, Apple Pay and Live Photos.

The iPhone 7 was a bit controversial due to the headphone jack removal; those Air Pods earphones cut the wire. No more untangling headphone cords! It has the same design as the previous two years, but there's increased water resistance - it can now survive being plunged in a swimming pool - which is great because my iPhone 6 did not.
