'Assassin’s Creed III' Remastered Confirmed For Xbox, PS4, PC - But Not Switch

Ubisoft has finally confirmed a release date for its remaster of Assassin's Creed III. The American Revolutionary War-set open-worlder will land on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on 29 March, and will be made available to Assassin's Creed Odyssey season pass holders on the same day.

You'll spot one platform missing, there. The Nintendo Switch isn't getting the remaster - yet - despite certain European retailers publishing listings for the game recently. What we saw then was a release date of 15 February - safe to say that's not happening, but don't rule out a version coming to Switch in the near future. (Because some Ratonhnhaké:ton on the run would be a treat, and no mistake.)

The remaster will feature 4K and HDR visuals, with all new hi-res textures in a new graphics engine. Improvements have also been made to the mechanics and controls, though I wouldn't expect anything radical in that department, as this still looks more or less like the game we all got very bored of back in 2012. Those god rays look lush, though.

Ubisoft has, perhaps wisely, not shown footage of the modern segments of the 2012 game, since any reminder of Desmond Miles' existence is liable to put us into a coma.

Assassin's Creed III will include all DLC - which means you're going to get the bonkers one set in alternative reality where George Washington becomes a supervillain and builds a pyramid. Also featured is a full remaster of Assassin's Creed III: Liberation, originally released exclusively for the PlayStation Vita. Yep, two games for the price of one. Not too shabby, Ubi.

So, fancy a return to Assassin's Creed III? Or will you be trying it for the first time? Let us know your thoughts over on Twitter and Facebook
