If you've travelled on a plane before then you'll know that there's much hype surrounding turning electronic devices off, or putting them in airplane mode, during a flight.

Some will abide by those rules, other rogues will completely ignore it due to the logic of 'what harm can it do?'You may have been told that any signals from switched on devices may interfere with the electronics on the plane and bring it down. This, as you've probably worked out for yourself, is utter bullshit.

The reason you are told to turn them off or switch them to airplane mode is basically because they annoy pilots and air traffic controllers.
In the headsets of the pilots a phone will cause a noise that you're probably familiar with. It usually occurs when a phone is near a set of speakers and makes an indescribable, shuddering sound. Almost like a CD is skipping.

So, imagine that right in your ear. That's what the pilots have to deal with if an ignorant passenger is ignoring the rule.
