Nintendo has announced that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be getting its own special Switch bundle later this year, with a Smash-branded dock and Joy-Cons. Strangely, the bundle will be released on 2nd November, about a month ahead of the game's 7th December release date.

You might be thinking that you could turn your own Joy-Cons into Smash editions with a bit of Tipp-Ex, but good luck replicating that gorgeous artwork on the dock. Naturally, the bundle also includes a download code for Smash Bros. Ultimate itself, which gamers will be able to activate upon the game's release.

But that's not all! Nintendo Direct showcases are normally choc-a-bloc with new game announcements and last night was no exception, with loads of new software being revealed for the Nintendo Switch.

The news that has the most gamers excited is that beloved social sim series Animal Crossing will be getting a Switch game in 2019. The mobile game Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp was released last year but failed to impress longtime fans like Chrissy Teigen, who will surely be elated by the announcement of a new mainline entry in the series.

Isabelle, the mayoral assistant from Animal Crossing, will also be joining the roster of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, where she'll be duking it out with over 70 other popular characters.

Other games announced last night for the Nintendo Switch include:

  • Luigi's Mansion 3
  • Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
  • Katamari Damacy Reroll
  • Carcassonne
  • Settlers of Catan
  • Munchkin
  • Final Fantasy VII, IX, X, X-2, XII, Chocobo's Dungeon and Final Fantasy Maxima
Nintendo didn't leave 3DS owners out in the cold either, with the announcement that Bowser's Inside Story and Kirby's Epic Yarn will be ported to the handheld.

We also learned a bit more about Nintendo's Switch Online service, and the classic NES games that will be available with the service when it launches on 19th September. For the full retro effect, you'll also be able to buy special NES themed Joy-Cons for your Switch. The full NES line-up consists of:

  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Super Mario Bros. 3
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Donkey Kong
  • Dr. Mario
  • Mario Bros.
  • Ice Climber
  • Ghosts 'n Goblins
  • Excitebike
  • Tecmo Bowl
  • Balloon Fight
  • Yoshi
  • Double Dragon
  • Gradius
  • Ice Hockey
  • River City Ransom
  • Pro Wrestling
  • Baseball
  • Soccer
  • Tennis

That's enough to keep Nintendo fans busy for a good long while. Which games are you most looking forward to playing?
