Bad news for those of you who are struggling to get on with the Snapchat upgrade, because boss Evan Spiegel has said it's here to stay.

I can think of few things in recent history that have caused as much uproar as this upgrade, and if you think I'm being dramatic, let me tell you that the petition to reverse the upgrade already has more than one million signatures.

However, undeterred by the backlash, Spiegel said: "You do need folks to use the product, to communicate with their friends to learn how to better provide that feed.

"Even the complaints we're seeing reinforce the philosophy. Even the frustrations we're seeing really validate those changes. It'll take time for people to adjust, but for me using it for a couple months I feel way more attached to the service."

So, basically, he just thinks we'll eventually get used to it, like a sort of social media Stockholm Syndrome.

Speaking at Goldman Sachs Internet and Technology Conference, Spiegel also said that the company is more focused on ensuring its users actually understand the app, saying: "We're really focused on, how when you come into our service, do you understand stories, do you understand maps?" Well, I think the thing is, mate, people did understand and now they don't.

The upgrade has seen thousands of users vowing to stop using the app and instead switching over to rival social media - such as Instagram Stories. The upgrade saw a complete overhaul of the app, with some users finding the change from swiping left to see your friends' Stories to right, particularly annoying.

Many angry Snapchatters took to Twitter to vent about the changes.

Sadly, it looks like it's just something you're going to have to get used to, guys.
